Flocking Birds

Submitted by Francois Botha on Wednesday, 20 August 2008No Comment

More often than not, the pipeline for a project gets overshadowed by the end result. The process of getting from point A to B is often overlooked because point B is just sooo damn sexy. But it doesn’t have to be that way. No really, it doesn’t.

Nando Costa from Nervo approached Barbarian Group and asked if they would help out with a project his new motion graphics company  was working on for Fox Movies Japan. He needed videos of flocking behavior. He wanted a couple videos of flocking using a 3D crow, and because of the tight deadline, Barbarian Group opted to script this in Processing. This then resulted in the functionality to capture images and a certain sequence which could later be saved back to video.
