Pixel Roller

This is one of my favourite applications using generative, electronic media and bringing it to life using specialised, and normally custom-built hardware. PixelRoller is a paint roller that paints pixels, designed as a rapid response printing tool specifically to print digital information such as imagery or text onto a great range of surfaces. The content is applied in continuous strokes by the user. PixelRoller can be seen as a handheld printerĀ, based around the ergonomics of a paintroller, that lets you create the images by your own hand.

The Generative Art Initiative aims to showcase the best examples of the artform to the world. Generative art is art or design generated, composed, or constructed through computer software algorithms, or similar mathematical or mechanical autonomous processes. The most common forms of generative art are graphics that visually represent complex processes, music, or language-based compositions like poetry. Other applications include architectural design, models for understanding sciences such as evolution, and artificial intelligence systems.
